You’re Not Failing—You’re Becoming

First things first: you are not failing. I know it feels that way right now—you’re exhausted, discouraged, maybe even ashamed. You wonder why recovery seems to come easier for everyone else, why you can’t just “get it right.”

But let me tell you something I wish someone had told me sooner: recovery isn’t about perfection. It’s about persistence. It’s not a straight line—it’s more like a messy scribble on a whiteboard, and that’s okay.

If you slipped, it doesn’t erase the progress you’ve already made. If today feels heavier than yesterday, it doesn’t mean tomorrow won’t be lighter. Falling down doesn’t make you weak—it makes you human. What matters is that you get back up, even if you wobble.

I know the voice in your head is loud right now, the one saying: You’ll never get this. You’re not strong enough. You’re too far gone. That voice is lying. You are not too far gone. You are not broken beyond repair. You are in the middle of becoming.

Here’s what I’ve learned: some of the bravest people I know are the ones who thought they were failing. Why? Because they kept going. They admitted the struggle, reached for help, and dared to try again. That takes guts.

And here’s the thing—your higher power isn’t waiting for you to hit some imaginary “perfect streak” (I need a daily reminder of this). You’ll be met in the mess. Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” That includes you, right now, exactly as you are.

So, if you’re reading this and feeling like a failure, let me offer you this instead: you are learning. You are growing. You are building resilience that can only come from walking through the hard stuff. You’re not failing—you’re fighting.

Keep showing up, even on the messy days. Especially on the messy days. That’s what recovery is made of. And I promise, one day you’ll look back and realize that what felt like “failure” was actually the foundation of your strength.

With you,
Someone still becoming
