A Letter to the Person Who Feels Like They’re Failing at Recovery

To the person who thinks they’re totally screwing up recovery — hey, I see you.

Let me just say this upfront:
You’re not failing.
You’re human.
And humans mess up. A lot. (Trust me, I’ve got the track record to prove it.)

I don’t journal every day. I don’t pray every day. I definitely don’t float through life in some perfect, glowy, enlightened sober state. I’ve fallen flat on my face more times than I can count — and guess what?
I’m still sober.
Still showing up.
Still trying.

That is recovery.

Here’s what I’ve learned: it’s not about being perfect — it’s about getting back up.
Even if you have to drag yourself up by your messy bun or with coffee in hand — it still counts.

Recovery isn’t linear.
Some days, you feel like a spiritual guru.
Other days, you’re just trying not to bite someone’s head off in traffic.
Both days matter.
Both days are recovery.

So if you feel like you’re failing, take a breath.
You’re not. You’re learning. You’re growing.
And honestly? If you can laugh at yourself along the way (because some of this stuff is just ridiculous), you’re already ahead.

You’re doing better than you think.

Keep going.

With love (and sarcasm),
Me
